Can't Decide What to Research

There are two research topics that I have been pondering.

Topic One: bullying in schools, its impact on students and school climate. My school formed a Safe School Ambassador program two years ago and now the program has been moved into our feeder high school. Does the SSA program postively impact student achievement?

Issue Two: if "All means ALL" in my district then why can't we address the issue of students who will not or cannot go on to college after high school. We should be preparing all types of learners for the next step in life, sometimes that is not college. Does vocational/certification have a "place" in our AYP, NCLB, AEIS world?

What do you think?

  1. Kate,
I think you have chosen two great topics. Either would be great topics to pursue. I would like to know more about cyberbullying as I think this is an issue that is going to effect us more and more in the future. If you choose this I will look forward to what you find out. But if you choose the voc.ed. route it will interesting to see what you learn. I look forward to seeing what you choose.

  2. Thanks, Nancy. Cyber-bullying is a hot button topic as it is so new to us yet our students are almost cyber experts. It may be too big a topic for just this class. I have also been thinking about discipline issues and why my district has been under scrutiny for "too many" minority placements in DAEP. There was a workshop that I was unable to attend last August that dealt with teaching to African Americans as way to draw them into the educational process. I wonder if the presenter had a point?

  3. I thought about researching cell phones in the school. Today, they are taboo and we have money penalties tied to breeching laws of out of sight out of mind. In reality, we need to develop policy on proper use so cell phones can be utilized as tools in the classroom. Cyberbulling is one major aspect that needs to be addressed in the new policy. Good topic.
